Creative Artwork Project: Echoes of the Deep: Minus one

The artwork "Echoes of the Deep: This thought provoking exploration of solastalgia (profound sense of loss and change associated with environmental degradation, especially in marine ecosystems), is called ‘Minus One’. Thankfully, in this piece the 2D and 3D art form combine beautifully, through intricate physical models and dynamic digital posters, to depict the deeply emotional result of solastalgia.

The project explores how to blend virtual and real elements to embody this notion of solastalgia as it resonates emotionally, as an art form. "Echoes of the Deep: Minus One offers viewers a chance to emerse into a multi sensory experience that illustrates that the visual arts can articulate feelings of environmental nostalgia and be used to restore emotions.

Why is the name 'Minus One’?

The word "Minus" in "Minus One" stands for negative energy, symbolizing the destruction of Marine ecology due to pollution. The word "One" is my first idea, which is not only a reflection of Marine pollution, but also a warning against environmental deterioration.

Production process

The process of production was difficult, as it was the first contact with this type of mock-making, everything had to be started from scratch. Whether it is from the use of clay to build models or mixing solidified resin glue because of immature operations, resulting in frequent accidents and even a mess. However, after paying a lot of manpower and material resources and even a number of failure products, finally made a more "successful" result.

Future outlook

Looking ahead, we are committed to further investigating the intersection of visual arts and environmental concerns. We will strive to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into the art-making process, aiming to create more engaging and interactive experiences for our audience. Additionally, we will examine the varied impacts of art across different cultural and social backgrounds, and we will seek to understand how artistic expressions can facilitate intercultural dialogue and enhance environmental education.
